A leisure centre is set to be redesigned by award-winning architects – and will gain a brand new sauna and steam room.
Hackney Council has been looking to refurbish Kings Hall Leisure Centre in Lower Clapton Road, Clapton, for the last three years.
It has now presented plans for the new-look leisure centre designed by Faulkner Brown Architects, which worked on the award-winning Britannia Leisure Centre in Hoxton.
The proposals include a refurbishment of the existing pool, as well as a new teaching pool, sauna, steam room, changing rooms and fitness suite.
A new two-court sports hall also forms part of the plan to rejuvenate the grade-II listed building.
The council says that the refurbishment of the 130-year-old leisure centre is needed as the condition of the building continues to deteriorate, causing several temporary closures in recent years.
Designs for the leisure centre also aim to make the venue more accessible, by moving the entrance to Clapton Square at ground level.
Mayor Caroline Woodley said: “While the council faces an incredibly challenging financial situation, we are committed to investing in Kings Hall to create a healthier Hackney for all our residents.
“These beautiful designs are aimed at securing and improving the leisure centre for generations to come.”
