The fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy took place minutes from where a woman was shot and killed less than eight months before.
Yesterday afternoon (July 23), a 15-year-old boy was found with stab wounds in Stellman Close, Hackney.
He died from his injuries at the scene, and a 15-year-old boy has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.
It comes less than eight months after a mum-of-two was shot in nearby Vine Close.
Lianne Gordon, 42, died after the shooting, which took place on December 5.
Two others - 20-year-old Amani Adams-McGuire and a 16-year-old boy – were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.
While the two incidents are not thought to be linked, the crime scene in Stellman Close is just a couple of minutes’ walk from where Lianne was shot.
Speaking earlier today, Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, who leads policing in Hackney, said: “I know the community will be searching for answers today and will be shocked and angry at this tragic loss of life.
“I want them to know that we will do everything in our power to provide those answers and bring those responsible to justice.
“Our investigation continues at pace today with officers conducting house-to-house enquiries, reviewing hours of CCTV, and speaking to witnesses.
“Local people can also expect to see a higher police presence in the area over the coming days as our enquiries continue.”
