Emergency repairs are being carried out after a sinkhole opened up in a one-way street.
Hackney Council has confirmed that a diversion was put in place after the sinkhole appeared in Victoria Park Road, Hackney, yesterday evening (July 11).
The affected stretch of road is between Lauriston Road and Derby Road.
The authority has warned that because the street is one-way, residents may experience access issues while repairs are being carried out.
People have been urged to avoid the area if possible and bus routes 277, 388 and 425 have been put on diversion.
A council spokesperson refused to put a timescale on the repair works until after the damage had been fully assessed.
They added: “We will be looking to resolve the situation as soon as we can to keep any disruptions to a minimum.”
