A crack cocaine dealer drove the wrong way round a roundabout to try and evade police.
Michael Katindi, of Foulden Road, Stoke Newington, was caught by Norfolk police officers on May 11, 2022.
Police signalled for the 34-year-old’s grey Range Rover to pull over in Norwich shortly before midday, but the car drove off.
Officers said that Katindi exceeded the 30mph speed limit, mounting a kerb and narrowly avoiding a crash with other vehicles when he drove the wrong way round a roundabout.
The chase was subsequently called off for safety reasons, but the car was soon found abandoned in a nearby road. A pair of flip flops were also found.
A search of the surrounding area found Katindi hiding with no shoes on in an alleyway, where he was arrested.
CCTV later showed the 34-year-old throwing a package into a garden while running from the car. This was found to have contained crack cocaine.
Katindi was jailed for seven years at Norwich Crown Court on July 1, after previously being found guilty of dangerous driving and possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.
He was also disqualified from driving for four and a half years.
Sgt Tim Russell of Norfolk Constabulary said: “Katindi made concerted efforts to evade police attention, driving dangerously in a built-up area.
“The live time enquiries, leading to the discovery of the Class A drugs, show the efforts officers put in to tackle drug dealing in Norfolk.
“Today’s sentencing shows those responsible will be dealt with robustly by both Norfolk Constabulary and the courts.”
