A man “throwing items” to the track of a busy station in London which sparked a 24-hour standoff with police has ended.

Trains at Kensington Olympia were first suspended by the incident in Russell Gardens Mews at 4.20am yesterday (June 17).

No trains were running between Shepherds Bush and Clapham Junction until further notice.

This was affecting Southern Railway services between Watford Junction and East Croydon, with trains being cancelled or terminated short.

National Rail confirmed on X (formally known as Twitter) that the incident ended at around 5am today (June 18).

The man was arrested in connection with the incident and taken to hospital as a precaution.

All train services have since returned back to normal.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Shortly before 05:00hrs on Tuesday, 18 June, the man came down.

“He was arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution."
