The final list of candidates for the parliamentary constituencies in Hackney have been revealed.
Voters across the country will go to the polls on July 4, after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called a general election.
Labour MPs previously held both seats – Diane Abbott in Hackney North and Stoke Newington, and Meg Hillier in Hackney South and Shoreditch.
Both will be seeking to be re-elected when voters go to the polls at the start of next month.
Abbott’s re-selection as the Labour candidate proved controversial, dominating the start of party’s election campaign.
The veteran left-wing MP had been suspended from the party last year after she suggested Jewish, Irish and Traveller people do not face racism “all their lives”.
Despite being reinstated as a Labour MP, it was rumoured that she would be barred from running for the party again.
After a week of speculation, leader Sir Keir Starmer said she was “free” to run, and Abbott confirmed her candidacy shortly afterwards.
But some voters in Hackney are now no longer within the boundaries of either constituency.
The boundaries for Islington South and Finsbury have changed, meaning voters in De Beauvoir ward now find themselves in this constituency.
Nominations to run in Hackney constituencies closed on Friday (June 7).
