A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a boy also aged 17 was stabbed to death.
Officers were called to reports of a stabbing in Hackney Road, Shoreditch, at the junction with Cremer Street, just before 11pm on Saturday (February 17).
A 17-year-old boy died at the scene from stab injuries.
The Metropolitan Police said they made an arrest today (February 19), and that the 17-year-old suspect remains in custody.
The force says the victim's family have been informed of his death and continue to be supported by specialist officers.
He has yet to be formally identified but a post-mortem examination will take place on Wednesday (February 21) at Poplar Mortuary.
Cordons remain in place in the road as officers continue forensic examination at the crime scene, and extra police patrols are being carried out in the surrounding area.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, who leads policing in Hackney, said: “My thoughts are with the family of this young man who has tragically lost his life.
“I can assure them that we will be relentless in seeking to identify whoever was responsible for this murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke said the incident took place on a busy road so there are likely to be other witnesses who are yet to come forward.
She said: “I would ask those individuals to make contact and tell us what you saw.”
She added: “A family has been left devastated following the tragic death of yet another young man on our streets.
“We have been working tirelessly to establish what happened and find whoever is responsible for this shocking attack.”
