A man allegedly threatened to stab an orthodox Jewish man in a suspected hate attack.

Police received a report on Sunday (October 29) that a man aged in his 40s had been verbally and physically assaulted in Stamford Hill.

The incident took place in Dunsmure Road on Saturday at around 12.15am.

According to Jewish neighbourhood watch group Shomrim, the man, described as Orthodox Jewish, was assaulted with a bottle.

He was then allegedly called a “motherf***ing Jew”, and threatened with stabbing.

Police have said that enquiries are under way to establish the identity of the suspect and that officers will schedule an appointment to take a statement from the victim “at his convenience”.

A police spokesperson said: “The incident is being treated as a hate crime.”

They added: “In recent days we have implemented extra patrols in Hackney where our communities feel vulnerable, and these will continue. We want to ensure all our communities feel safe.

“Hate crime has no place in London and we urge anyone who has been subjected to, or has witnessed such behaviour to contact police immediately.”
