A Hackney secondary school with an "unshakeable" commitment to support every student has been shortlisted for a national award.

The TES School Awards recognise the best teachers and schools from UK state and independents, including early years, primary and secondary.

Now in its 15th year, the awards are known to be one of the biggest nights in the education calendar. 

Cardinal Pole Catholic School is one of eight schools nominated across the country in the category.

The school, located in Morning Lane, Homerton, is a mixed comprehensive school for students aged 11 to 19.

Headteacher Adam Hall said: "Everyone at Cardinal Pole is beaming with pride that we have been shortlisted for the Secondary School of the Year Award.

"It’s an incredible acknowledgement of the exceptional service Cardinal Pole gives to our students, families and the wider community here in Hackney.

"Our mission as a school is to give every young person we serve the widest possible range of opportunities to succeed, not only in the classroom but also outside of it through a comprehensive fully funded extra-curricular programme.

Other categories for the awards include Inclusive School of the Year, Headteacher of the Year and Excellence in Creative Arts.

The TES School Awards winners will be announced on Friday, June 23 at a gala ceremony at London's Grosvenor Park Hotel.
