De Beauvoir and William Patten schools are earmarked for an audit of the air quality at 50 primary schools in London’s worst polluted areas.

The schools in Tottenham Road and Stoke Newington Church Street are part of the project that promises to find “hard-hitting measures” to protect kids from filthy air.

Reports will be ready by March and recommendations could include moving school entrances and play areas to reduce exposure to busy roads, “no engine idling” schemes, changes to road layouts, and green infrastructure such as “barrier bushes” along busy roads and in playgrounds to help to filter toxic fumes.

London Assembly Member for Hackney, Jennette Arnold AM, praised Sadiq Khan for taking “genuine” steps to clean up pollution.

“There is a lot of evidence showing that air quality can have a long-term detrimental impact on the health of our children,” she said. “I hope this audit is just the start.”
