Hackney is often the topic of debate regarding whether it is located in north or east London.
Even Gazette staff weren't sure - with friends and colleagues in the area giving conflicting answers.
So we turned to readers on Facebook for answers to the question 'Is Hackney in north London or east London?"

The response was split, with many saying it could be either.
But the consensus leaned towards Hackney being located in east London.
Margaret Dexter-Lewis said emphatically, "geographically it could be a bit of both...but it's definitely EAST".
Rick Sleiman echoed the sentiment, saying Hackney is "north east, but if have to choose one or the other then it's east".
Some people pointed out that parts of the district, such as Stoke Newington and Stamford Hill, have N postcodes, which suggests they are in north London.

Many consider 'Stokey' definitively north London, and Brenda Adcock chimed in on the history of the borough: "Little bit of history that may help.
"N16 Stoke Newington was its own borough until 1965 until it was amalgamated into Hackney, so originally Hackney would have purely been East London back in the day".
Others pointed out that while Hackney was traditionally considered part of east London, the area has become more mixed in recent years, with new residents and businesses moving in from different parts of the city and beyond.
Some commenters on the post also shared their personal experiences of living in Hackney.
One person remembered that they lived in E8 and E9, both of which were considered part of Hackney.
Another said they had lived in Hackney for 50 years and considered it to be in east London.
Some people pointed out that where Hackney belongs depends on who you ask.
Others simply answered "north east".

Julie King, Raine Fowler, Margaret Dexter-Lewis, and Rick Sleiman believed Hackney is situated on the north east border.
One person noted that it could be considered both north and east London.
Ultimately, whether you consider yourself to be a north or east Londoner may come down to your postcode or your class or cultural allegiances.
But while there is some debate, the majority of responses suggest that Hackney is considered by most to be in east London.
